Overview

This Type C standard contains safety requirements. It contains the German version of EN 1034-21:2012 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 198 "Printing and paper machinery - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The secretariat is held by DIN. During the preparation of the standard, the national interests were represented by Working Committee NA 060-23-01 AA "Druck- und Papiermaschinen" ("Printing and paper machinery") at Technical Section "Printing and paper machinery" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of machine manufacturers and of the employers' liability insurance association for the raw material and chemical industry (formerly known as employers' liability insurance association for papermakers) contributed to this standard. This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard applies to coating machines utilizing the wet process for off-line coating of base paper including unwind unit, coating units, drying section, flotation and infrared dryer, smoothing unit, integrated calender, measuring device, integrated sheeter, reel-up, drives and control system and applies together with EN 1034-1:2000+A1:2010. It deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and hazard events relevant to coating machines, when used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. Pressure hazards in steam-heated drying cylinders are not dealt with. This standard does not apply to: - paper and board making machines, - equipment for the treatment of coating substances, - coating machines using solvent-based colours, - coating machines applying silicon, adhesives or resin onto the paper web, - printing and varnishing machines, - integrated conveyors and cranes designed for transporting reels/shells (reel spools) and for machine maintenance, - integrated fire extinguishing equipment. Application: machine designers.
