Cold heading and cold extrusion steels are used in a wide range of applications due to their good formability and surface quality. They are used to manufacture screws, bolts, rivets, pins, as well as brake and gearshift components. The five parts of the EN 10263 series of standards are divided as follows: Part 1 - General technical delivery conditions; Part 2 - Technical delivery conditions for steels not intended for heat treatment after cold working; Part 3 - Technical delivery conditions for case hardening steels; Part 4 - Technical delivery conditions for steels for tempering and quenching; Part 5 - Technical delivery conditions for stainless steels. The revision of this series of standards was initiated by Technical Committee ECISS/TC 106 "Wire rod and wire" (secretariat: AFNOR) of the European Committee for Iron and Steel Standardization (ECISS). The responsible German standardization committee is Subcommittee 08/5 "Cold heading and cold extrusion steels" at Standards Committee Iron and Steel (FES).
