Cold heading and cold extrusion steels are used in a variety of practical applications due to their good formability and surface quality. They are used to manufacture screws, bolts, rivets, pins and brake or switching elements. The five parts of the EN 10263 series of standards are divided as follows: Part 1 - General technical delivery conditions; Part 2 - Technical delivery conditions for steels not intended for heat treatment after cold working; Part 3 - Technical delivery conditions for case hardening steels; Part 4 - Technical delivery conditions for steels for quenching and tempering; Part 5 - Technical delivery conditions for stainless steels. The revision of this series of standards has been initiated by Technical Committee ECISS/TC 106 "Wire rod and wires" (secretariat: AFNOR) of the European Committee for Iron and Steel Standardization (ECISS). The responsible German standardization committee is Subcommittee 08/5 "Cold heading and cold extrusion steels" at DIN Standards Committee Iron and Steel (FES).
