The European Standard EN 10027-1 specifies the rules for the designation of steels by means of code letters and numbers for the concise identification of steels. The code letters and numbers are chosen to give indications of essential characteristics, for example, the main field of application, mechanical or physical properties or composition. The rules apply to steels included in European Standards (EN), Technical Specifications (TS), Technical Reports (TR) and the national standards of CEN members and may also be used to designate non-standard steels. The revision was requested by ECISS/TC 109 - Flat products for cold forming - because the designation symbol for zinc-magnesium coatings previously has not been included in Table 17, but is required for flat products according to EN 10346. The responsible German standardization committee is Subcommittee UA 19/1 "Einteilung, Benennung und Benummerung von Stählen" ("Classification, designation and numbering of steels") at DIN Standards Committee Iron and Steel (FES).
This document replaces DIN EN 10027-1:2005-10 .
