Overview

This Technical Report describes the measures required for the repair of damaged CATV cables. Excavation work is a common cause of damage. The cable laid in the ground can be cut, stretched, torn, crushed or damaged in some other way. Professional repair is then essential to restore the full transmission capacity of the affected cable section. Repair measures have to guarantee the intended long-term continued operation. This Technical Report is intended to provide cable network operators and installation companies with an aid for determining the extent and impact of cable damage and for carrying out and assessing suitable repair measures. The explanations in this Technical Report also apply mutatis mutandis to coaxial cables that are not buried in the ground, for example when they are installed in buildings. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.3 "Koaxialkabel - und leitungen" ("Coaxial cables") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
