Overview

The double-pole contact inserts according to DIN 89320 are used to equip watertight plugs, sockets and couplings used in electrical installations on ships with operating voltages up to 250 V. The contact insert for the plug has a first make last break protective contact, and the two contacts for the active conductors are arranged asymmetrically. This means that plugs and sockets equipped with such inserts can also be used in DC voltage networks. The standard, which is now more than 20 years old, had to be revised because the majority of the requirements and tests it contains had to be adapted to the advanced state of the art. NA 132-03-52 AA "Installationsmaterial" ("Installation material") at DIN-NSMT is responsible.
