This standard applies to outboard ladders for inland navigation vessels. Outboard ladders are used on inland navigation vessels with large side heights for a safe transition into ship's boats, safe disembarking to the shore or a safe crossing over onto vessels with lower decks. This standard specifies main dimensions, construction and requirements for outboard ladders. Outboard ladders are intended for the area in which boarding stairs according to DIN EN 1502 are no longer long enough, that is from a height of about 2,30 m above the light water-line. Outboard ladders according to this standard as well as outboard stairs according to DIN EN 1502 are part of the mandatory equipment on inland navigation vessels with a board height of more than 1,50 m above the light water-line.
