This standard is a design rule for the design and construction of a swimming pool for crew on sea going ships. It serves as an aid for the designer during project planning and simultaneously serves as a basis for the ship owner when drafting building regulations. Furthermore, the pool ladder is defined as a unit and is available as an item for purchase. While preparing the standard the specifications are based on the "Verordnung über die Unterbringung der Besatzungsmitglieder an Bord von Kauffahrteischiffen (Wohnraumverordnung)" ("Ordinance on the accommodation of the crew members on board of traders") of 1973-02-08; in: Federal Law Gazette Part I, pages 66-79, last amended by the "Erste Verordnung über die Unterbringung der Besatzungsmitglieder an Bord von Kauffahrteischiffen" ("First ordinance for the amendment to the ordinance on the accommodation of the crew members on trader ships"), In: Federal Law Gazette Part I, 1976, page 2443, in connection with the Technische Regeln für Bau und Ausrüstung von Unterkunftsräumen auf Seeschiffen (TRU), as well as the special ship-specific environmental conditions. Swimming pools in accordance with this standard are for crew use only. They are not public swimming pools where children and physically handicapped persons shall also be taken into account and they are not intended for passengers on passenger vessels.
