DIN 820-3 "Standardization - Part 3: Terms and definitions" has been prepared by Committee NA 173-00-01 AA "Normungsgrundsätze (ANG)" ("Standardization principles"). This terminology standard contains the terms and definitions which, in addition to the terms and definitions according to DIN EN 45020, are necessary for standardization at DIN. The revision of DIN 820-3:1998-07 has become necessary, as within the framework of the revision of DIN 820-1 and DIN 820-4 several terms and definitions had to be adapted. The terms and definitions already defined in DIN EN 45020:2007-03 have been deleted without any replacement in order to ensure coherency of the body of standards. The clause "Terms and definitions" has been adopted from DIN 820-13 and -15. With respect to DIN 820-3:1998-07, the following changes have been made: a) Terms have been added for which a definition has become necessary during the revision of the standards DIN 820-1 and DIN 820-4; b) the clause "Terms and definitions" has been adopted from DIN 820-13 and DIN 820-15; c) new terms have been added: standardization, DIN SPEC, partial replacement, replacement document, in-house standard, date of publication, withdrawal, withdrawal without replacement, historical, current, limited period of use or interest, the term "shortened procedure" has been replaced by "fast track procedure"; d) terms and definitions specified in DIN EN 45020:2007-03 have been deleted without replacement; e) obsolete terms such as proof (copy) and standard document have been deleted without replacement; f) "Innere Prüfstelle (IP)" ("Standards checking section at DIN") and "Normenprüfstelle (NP)" ("Standards inspection department") have been substituted by "Process quality and testing" (PQ); "Project and data management" (PD) has been introduced; g) the alphabetic indexes have been revised according to DIN EN 45020:2007-03; h) have been adopted to the currently valid design rules; i) the term "shortened procedure" has been replaced by "fast track procedure"; j) the standard has been editorially revised.
