This standard is the German translation of the International Recommendation OIML R 51-1:2006 (Automatic catchweighing instruments - Part 1: Metrological and technical requirements - Tests) issued by the Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale (OIML), en: International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML). In the framework of the realization of the European Measuring Instruments Directive 2004/22/EC (MID), the European Commission named OIML R 51-1 in the Official Journal C 269. With respect to Article 13 of the MID, the member states presume conformity of a measuring instrument with the basic requirements of the directive if it is in accordance with the corresponding specifications in the normative documents named by the EU Commission. OIML R 51-1 is granted therewith considerable significance in national practical implementation. Therefore, Working Committee NA 152-05-01 AA of Technical Section "Wägetechnik" ("Weighing technology") of the Fundamental Technical Standards Committee (NATG) decided to make the official German translation of OIML R 51-1 generally available through the publication of a DIN standard. The reference OIML R 51-1, Edition 2006 (E) was developed by the OIML Technical Subcommittee TC 9/SC 2 "Automatic weighting instruments". It was submitted to the International Conference of Legal Metrology 2008 for formal sanction. This standard specifies the metrological and technical requirements and test procedures for automatic catchweighing instruments that are subject to national metrological control. It is intended to provide standardized requirements and testing procedures to evaluate the metrological and technical characteristics in a uniform and traceable way. A standardized Test Report Format is given in OIML R 51-2. This standard applies to all instruments that automatically weigh discrete loads or single loads of loose material.
