The cleanliness and hygiene in school buildings are of particular importance. The environment in which children and young persons are trained influences their health as well as on their own hygiene perception and behaviour. Proper and professional cleaning and care also helps to provide for an optimal learning environment and atmosphere. Appropriate and professional cleaning of building also contributes to the overarching goal of sustainable action. The cleaning and care of furnishings and floor coverings supports their value retention, thereby prevents their premature replacement and thus reduces the resulting consumption of resources. The goal of municipal and authority representatives, industry representatives from building cleaning, manufacturers of cleaning and care products and research institutes involved in the development of this standard is to define principles for contractual, environmentally conscious and hygienic school cleaning. The revised new edition includes current developments both in terms of technology and methods of building cleaning as well as taking into account today's everyday school life with an increase in all-day care and multiple use of school buildings. Legal requirements, such as those specified by the Infection Protection Act, have been adequately taken into account in the standard. The standard is aimed at all decision-makers and those involved in building cleaning in school buildings. It defines minimum requirements for cleaning in buildings of general and vocational schools and in associated sports facilities, regardless of whether the cleaning is carried out by the company's own employees or by service providers. It also provides information on how the effective implementation of the cleaning can be influenced by the specifications of the decision-makers.
