This standard specifies the fundamentals for multi project management. In conjunction with the five parts of DIN 69901:2009 as well as additional parts of DIN 69909 it is applicable for organizations wishing to develop, introduce, maintain and improve multi project management, organizations wishing to ensure the compliance of their project management standards with the standard, organizations wishing to demonstrate this compliance with respect to others, those parties wishing to achieve a common understanding regarding uniform terms in multi project management, those internal and external parties who the organization wishes to consult and train with regard to a multi project management appropriate for them as well as those parties developing software for multi project management. This standard is applicable for organizations of all types and sizes, and irrespective of the number and complexity of the projects. In the five parts of DIN 69901 the standards for management of individual projects, which have originated from the network planning and have been supplemented on various occasions, have been compiled, re-structured, consistently updated and supplemented with fundamental parts. Collaborations within and between enterprises benefit from a uniform specification of project management terms, processes and data. In many enterprises the share of project work in the added value exceeds 50 % by now and, as a result, has become for management an essential factor of success that needs to be taken into account. In many cases this goes beyond the management of individual projects. Multi project management, that is the management of projects, programs and project portfolios, links organizational management and project work and in this manner significantly determines the success of the organization. With this standard an organization can not only improve efficiency through the management of individual projects but also the effectiveness through management of the diversity of all projects, resulting in an increase in competitiveness. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 147-00-04 AA "Projektmanagement" ("Project management") at DIN.
