The standard applies for the performance of RöV constancy testing in dental recording using conventional (film) or digital imaging (sensor/imaging plate). It specifies methods to check constancy of decisive performance characteristics of X-ray images. It may be concluded from the result whether the characteristics of the imaging device have remained constant. The characteristics at the time of the acceptance test are taken as the basis. The standard applies for the performance of the constancy testing for dental radiographic equipment with an intra-oral X-ray image receptor and for dental radiographic equipment with an extra-oral X-ray image receptor, for example, dental radiographic equipment for panoramic images or for teleradiographic images. Constancy testing of dental radiographic equipment for digital cone-beam computed tomography (DVT) or 3D reconstruction is not covered by this standard. Additional system functions in panoramic X-ray systems for the generation of 3D reconstructions are also not part of this standard. The standard contains image quality assurance specifications according to the German X-Ray Ordinance (RöV) of 2003-04-30, requirements according to § 16. Thus the standard serves for the fulfilment of national requirements in radiation protection. The standard has been prepared jointly by Working Committee NA 014-00-08 AA "Röntgendiagnostik" ("Radiological diagnostics") of the Dentistry Standards Committee (NADENT) and Working Committee NA 080-00-06 AA "Bildgebende Systeme" ("Imaging systems") of the Radiology Standards Committee (NAR).
