Overview

This standard provides specifications for constructing doors with regard to their characteristics for radiation protection. Regarding the dimensions this standard is based on the currently valid version of DIN 4172 "Modular Co-ordination in Building Construction". It proved to be necessary to include both radiation protection doors with one and with two swing panels and separately also sliding doorsets. The standard pays particular attention to the actual structural design of the wall socket between the frame profile and the wall and lintel, the anchorage of the door leaf as well as the bottom of the door leaf to the floor. This standard is applicable for radiation protection doors used against X-radiation for X-ray diagnostics and radiation therapy and against gamma radiation for nuclear medicine and scattered radiation in afterloading therapy. The standard is applicable for steel doors and doors made of wood and wood-based panels. Radiation protection doors made of other materials are not dealt with in this standard. The specifications of this standard can, however, be applied analogously to other materials. This standard shall not be used for radiation protection doors against bremsstrahlung radiation and neutrons for radiation therapy using electron and proton accelerator facilities and for gamma radiation from gamma radiation facilities and useful radiation for afterloading therapy. Other functions of radiation protection doors, for example, sound insulation and fire protection, are also not included in this standard. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 005-09-01 AA "Türen, Tore, Fenster, Abschlüsse, Baubeschläge und Vorhangfassaden" ("Doors, windows, shutters, building hardware and curtain walling") of the Building and Civil Engineering Standards Committee, in collaboration with Working Committee NA 080-00-02 AA "Strahlenschutz" ("Radiation protection") of the Radiology Standards Committee at DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, collaborating with the Deutsche Röntgengesellschaft (German Radiological Society) and in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Medizinische Physik (German Society for Medical Physics) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nuklearmedizin (German Society of Nuclear Medicine) as well as the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Radioonkologie (German Society for Radio Oncology).
