Technical documents are integrated into a complex environment. This relates both to the processes they result from as well as to their own, often complex, structure and the framework conditions under which they are created and used. This results in increased requirements for the formal quality of such documents, in particular, with regard to their quality in terms of existing laws, regulatory and, if applicable, contractual requirements as well as standards. If documents only exist in digital form, as is increasingly the case (for example, as a 3D model from a CAD system), compliance with the aforementioned requirements is no longer evident and shall be further detailed. This standard specifies requirements for protection against falsification and the release of digital product data. These requirements create the conditions so that: - regulatory and/or respective specific requirements from the relevant contracts can be fulfilled; - requirements of certifying or approval authorities can be met; - verification will be possible that might minimize risks to the maximum extent possible which could result from the quality of the relevant documents and the processes generating or releasing them; - backups of the relevant documents are made available for reuse in the business process (for example for subsequent product modifications); - risks resulting from disputable verification documents (for example in cases of manufacturer's liability) are reduced. This standard cancels and replaces the standards DIN 6789-5:1995-10, DIN 6789-6:1998-05 and DIN 6789-7:2005-06. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 152-06-01 AA "Dokumentationswesen" ("Technical Product Documentation") at the Technical Fundamentals Standards Committee (NATG).
