This German standard has been prepared by NA 012-00-04 GA "Gemeinschaftsarbeitsausschuss FNCA/NAL: Getränkeschankanlagen" ("Joint Working Committee FNCA/NAL Beverage dispensing systems") which is formed by NA 012 of the Chemical Apparatus Standards Committee (FNCA) and NA 057 of the Food and Agricultural Products Standards Committee (NAL). In NA 057 Food and Agricultural Products Standards Committee (NAL), the standardization work has been aligned within Working Committee NA 057-02-01 AA "Lebensmittelhygiene" ("Food hygiene"). The preparation of this standard took place with the cooperation of Working Group "Getränkeschankanlagen" ("Beverage dispensing systems") of the Berufsgenossenschaft Nahrungsmittel und Gaststätten (BGN) ("German Professional Association Foodstuffs and catering"). This standard specifies requirements for mobile remote coolers for use in beverage dispensing systems and their performance tests. It is applicable for wet and dry cooling systems. Mobile remote coolers are often applied by the glass in beverage dispensing systems. Until now it was hardly possible to compare the characteristics of these appliances, and planning of their application under certain boundary conditions such as environmental temperatures and dispensing volume per time unit was difficult. Therefore it was difficult to have a standardized method for determination of the cooling capacity in place to allow for comparable performance information and as a result planning security during application of the appliances. One focus of the standard is the description of the test method for determination of the standardized cooling performance of mobile remote coolers. The basis of all performance measurements is the adherence of a temperature decrease from 24 °C to 4 °C (delta T = 20 K) at specified ambient temperature. The cooling capacity of dry coolers then corresponds with the indicated volume flow in litres per hour, where a constant outlet temperature of 4 °C is achieved. This condition also applies for the measurement of the continuous cooling performance of wet coolers during operation without ice banks (value also in litres per hour). The peak performance of wet coolers during ice bank operation results from the equally determined volume flow, multiplied by the duration up to the entire melting of the ice bank. The peak performance of wet coolers is given in litres. In addition this standard specifies requirements for the design of the appliances, for example, for the materials used and the pressure regulators as well as recommendations for the type of tap. Furthermore a standard designation is specified as well as provisions for marking of the appliance, the associated documentation and the information for use to be supplied. In the annexes information is given for the operating pressures to be set in relation to the type of beverage as well as operating instructions and the bibliography.
