This standard has been prepared by Rolling Bearings and Plain Bearings Standards Committee, Working Committee NA 118-01-11 AA "Linear-Wälzlager einschließlich Teile und Zubehör" ("Linear motion rolling bearings including parts and accessories"). Regarding the support of linear axes there is a large number of design principles for the designer. They range from simple sliding guides and hydrostatics, aerostatics, magnetic technology to linear motion ball or roller bearings. Profiled linear guides are one of the most important designs of linear motion ball or roller bearings, which have now reached a level of development which makes them, like rotational bearings, indispensable as a high performance component in general mechanical engineering. From a technical point of view linear guide system components are characterized by load carrying ability, stiffness, service life, accuracy, dynamics, damping behaviour, space and friction. Load carrying ability of a roller guide system is described by indicating a dynamic load rating which serves as the basis for the calculation of the rating life. All manufacturers have agreed on applying an internationally valid calculation method which is described in ISO 14728-1, so that the calculation methods for the determination of the dynamic load rating used by the individual manufacturers do not differ too strongly from each other. The dynamic load rating of profiled linear guides can be checked or verified in elaborate test series. The results are, however, strongly influenced by many test parameters. This factor makes it necessary to standardize the test parameters. When representing the dynamic load rating of linear motion ball or roller bearings by test, the result reflects many influences and parameters, respectively. It is therefore possible to have an enormous influence on the results through the test parameters. Without stipulating the test parameters the results cannot be compared between different guide systems. This standard specifies the test parameters for the verification of the dynamic load rating of linear rolling guides in accordance with ISO 14728-1. This standard is exclusively intended for experimental verification of the dynamic load rating of recirculation linear motion balls or roller bearings consisting of carriage and profiled rail, hereinafter referred to as profiled rail linear guides. The indication of the dynamic load rating in accordance with ISO 14278-1 in connection with the clearly defined influencing factors bm and λ serves as the basis. The procedure described in this standard can not be used for the experimental determination of the dynamic load rating. The test set-up design and arrangement are for example not included in this standard. Furthermore, the number of samples specified in this standard is insufficient for the experimental determination of the dynamic load rating.
