The standard is applicable for measurement of optical fibers for image and data transmission (distances up to 100 m) as well as for transmission of light and optical radiation in the near infrared and ultraviolet spectral range. The standard is not applicable for fiber optic components and products intended for telecommunication and data transmission over distances > 100 m. The purpose of this standard is to define a uniform method for determining the total diameter of an optical fiber (including tight and loosely applied coatings) as well as core diameter, cladding diameter, and layer thickness of inner and outer coating layers, respectively. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 027-01-16 AA "Faseroptik" ("Fibre optics") at NAFuO.
