This standard specifies safety requirements within the meaning of Directive 42/2006/EC, “Machinery Directive”,
and the Produktsicherheitsgesetz*) (ProdSG) (German Product Safety Act) and is only valid in conjunction with
DIN 56950-1. The DIN 56950 series of standards consists of a total of 5 parts under the general title Entertainment
technology — Machinery installations.
Part 3 of DIN 56950 applies to manually and/or machine-operated stands with a safe working load of more than
3 kg which are used in entertainment technology. Stands within the meaning of this standard are used for the
purposes of lifting, lowering, and holding loads (e.g. scenic elements, trusses, lighting and audiovisual equipment).
These installations are not permitted to be used for the transportation of persons or for the movement of loads
above people’s heads. This standard also applies to installations with new technologies or customized designs
that are not expressly named in the document but are being used in identical modes of operation.
Two informative annexes are included in this standard which provide users with additional helpful information.
Annex A provides examples of hazards, hazardous situations, and hazardous events associated with stands.
Annex B provides an example contents of a quick-start guide attached to the stand.
