Coating materials to be used in controlled areas of nuclear facilities are tested according to this standard (suitability test). The requirements specified in this standard are to be understood as minimum requirements. Additional requirements may be specified for certain areas; for example, special chemical resistance in decontamination plants or laboratories, higher radiation resistance in hot cells, resistance to hot water vapour, freedom from pores and water vapour diffusion tightness in interior coatings for containers, crack-bridging properties. Such requirements and the test methods to be used shall be agreed, noting whether and to what extent the requirements of this standard can still be maintained in such cases. Work on the fire behaviour and hot steam resistance of coatings in nuclear facilities has not yet been completed. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 002-00-07 AA "Allgemeine Prüfverfahren für Beschichtungsstoffe und Beschichtungen" ("General test methods for coating materials and coatings") at DIN.
This document replaces DIN 55991-1:2003-07 .
