The pH value of aqueous polymer dispersions as binders in paints and varnishes and aqueous paints and binders themselves is, amongst others, of crucial importance for stability, rheological flow behaviour, tinting strength, stability of pigments and for the development of hydrogen when using corresponding aluminium pigments. This part of DIN 55659 specifies a method for the measurement of the pH value of aqueous polymer dispersions and paints and varnishes using pH electrodes with glass membrane. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 002-00-07-12 AK "Leitfähigkeit und pH-Wert" ("Electrical conductivity and ph-value") at DIN.
