This standard applies to the corrosion protection of supporting thin-walled building components made from non-alloy or low alloy steels, the nominal sheet thickness of which is up to 3 mm and which are subjected to atmospheric corrosion stress. Other protective functions, for instance protection against - microorganisms (growth, bacteria, fungi, and so on), - chemicals (acids, alkalis, organic solvents, gases, and so on), - mechanical strain (abrasion, and so on), - fire, are not included. This standard applies to coil-coatings and piece-work coatings which have been carried out at plant or site. With respect to DIN 55928-8:1994-07 the following changes have been made: a) the contents have been completely revised; b) the scope has been extended; c) the classification of corrosion stresses relates to the corrosivity categories specified in DIN EN ISO 12944-2. However, a reference is made in Table 1 to the corrosion protection categories given in DIN 55928-8, as these are also indicated in various applicable standards; d) the standard designation of the protection system has been deleted; e) the normative references have been revised, whereby now a reference is made to the latest European and International Standards which have adopted in Deutsches Normenwerk (German body of standards). This standard has been prepared by Joint Working Committee NAB/NABau NA 002-00-10 GA "Korrosionsschutz von Stahlbauteilen" ("Corrosion protection of steel structures"); the responsible Committee is NAB Subcommittee NA 002-00-10-08 UA "Korrosionsschutz von tragenden dünnwandigen Bauteilen" ("Protection of supporting thin-walled building components").
