This Part 4 of the series of standards defines wet-chemical digestion methods for determining metallic main components and trace impurities, an extraction method for determining iron compounds soluble in hydrochloric acid in boron carbide, solid process for determining trace impurities, a process for determining lanthanum in lanthanum boride using X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) and a photometric process for determining titanium in titanium boride. The usual analytical determination processes, which are not described in detail in this standard, are to be used to determine the analytes in the sample solutions. The solids processes are each described in more detail using an example. It applies to boron carbide, present as coarse-grained raw material, grain-shaped material or powder, as well as sintered and molded boron carbide, amorphous and crystalline boron and boron nitride in various degrees of purity as powder or molded or hot-pressed bodies for the purpose of determining the various chemical components. This document also applies to the metal borides aluminum boride, calcium boride, chromium boride, lanthanum boride, magnesium boride, molybdenum boride, titanium boride and zirconium boride, as well as other metal borides after substance-specific testing. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-02-64 AA "Chemische Analyse von nichtoxidischen keramischen Roh- und Werkstoffen" ("Chemical analysis of non-oxidic ceramic raw and basic materials") at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP).
This document has been replaced by: DIN 54387-4:2023-08 .
