This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-08-27 AA "Visuelle und thermographische Prüfung" ("Visual and thermographic methods") of the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP). This document specifies the procedure of active thermographic testing for condition monitoring. These tests are used for: - the detection of errors and other irregularities, - the determination of geometries/shapes parallel to the measurement surface, - the determination of layer thicknesses and - the comparison of thermal material properties. For this purpose, active thermography is deployed, using different excitation sources. Fields of application of active thermography can be found in industrial production (composite materials, vehicle, engine and power plant components, and so on) and in maintenance (aerospace, power plant, building industries, and so on).
