Overview

This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-04-37 AA "Prüfung weich-elastischer Schaumstoffe" ("Testing of flexible cellular polymeric materials") of the DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP). This standard specifies a non-destructive method to be used to determine the indentation hardness of flexible moulded foams with a minimum thickness of 10 mm. Applying this method, it is possible to express the indentation force in Newton, for a defined indentation displacement or the indentation displacement in millimetres, for a defined indentation force. This method is suitable for conducting tests directly on the moulded parts. The test specified in this standard is not suitable for determining the hardness of extruded profiles that are customarily called sponge rubber or expanded rubber.
