Overview

This document has been prepared by Subcommittee NA 062-06-61-03 UA "Tribologische Prüfung von Schmierstoffen" ("Tribological testing of lubricants") of Working Committee NA 062-06-61 AA "Prüfung von Schmierölen, sonstigen Ölen und Paraffinen" ("Testing of lubricating oils, other oils and Paraffin") of the Standardization Committee for Petroleum, Fuels, Lubricants and Related Products (FAM) at the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP). It specifies a method for testing liquid and consistent lubricants with additives P in accordance with DIN 51502, also called EP lubricants internationally, for translatory oscillating relative movements. This is achieved by comparative testing of the influences of lubricants on the wear rate and friction coefficients of the tribological system ball-on-disc (see clause 6) in a translatory oscillation apparatus (called oscillation apparatus in the following).
