The standard provides an index of standard test methods for solid fuels as well as information which is important for solid fuel testing. For the purposes of this standard, solid fuels are: Regular fuels: hard coal, hard coal briquettes, coke, brown coal, lignite briquettes and brown coal coke. Other solid fuels: Slurry coal, low grade coal and tailings, charcoals, charcoal briquettes, compressed wood, solid bio-fuels and solid recovered fuels. Solid bio-fuels and solid recovered fuels which are used together with regular fuels in firing installations shall be examined according to the standardized test methods for solid fuels, which may result in other precision data. Within the framework of the European Standardisation (CEN/TC 335 "Solid fuels") and CEN/TC 343 "Sekundärbrennstoffe" ("Solid recovered fuels"), standards have been prepared for the analysis of non-fossil fuels. The standard contains a description of the different bases of solid fuels as well as equations for conversion of the bases, along with general requirements for the execution of the tests, the expression of results and the test report. Moreover, the standard contains various overviews of the individual DIN standards and their application to the individual fuels. Furthermore, comparable ISO standards of ISO/TC 27 "Solid mineral fuels" are listed. A comprehensive bibliography supplements the standard. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA-008-12-02 AA "Prüfung fester Brennstoffe" ("Testing Solid Fuels") of FABERG.
