Overview

This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-06-63 AA "Gebrauchtöluntersuchung" ("Analysis of used oils") at Technical Committee "Mineralöl- und Brennstoffnormung (FAM)" ("Standardization of mineral oils and combustible materials") at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP). This document differs from DIN EN ISO 3104 in that it describes the measurement of the viscosity of lubricating oils, with references to the special features of used lubricating oils (gasoline engine oils, diesel engine oils, gear oils, gas engine oils and hydraulic oils). This document specifies a method for determining the kinematic viscosity of used lubricating oils at 40 °C (viscosity range from 4 mm2/s to 1 000 mm2/s) and at 100 °C (viscosity range from 2 mm2/s to 100 mm2/s) by means of manual or automatic measurement with a glass capillary viscometer. All standard industrial capillaries that show the kinematic viscosity as a result can be used (see Annex A, for example, Ubbelohde, Cannon-Fenske, multi-range capillaries).
