Overview

This document has been prepard by Working Committee NA 062-06-42 AA "Prüfung von flüssigen Kraftstoffen und Heizölen") ("Testing of liquid fuels and fuel oils") at the Petroleum, Fuels, Lubricants and Related Products Standardization Committee (FAM) at the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) at DIN. This document specifies a method for direct determination of the biobased hydrocarbon content of hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) in commonly used diesel fuels via the 14 content using the liquid scintillation method. Since the 14 content as a sum can originate both from the biobased HVO content as well as biodiesel contained in diesel fuel (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester, FAME), the FAME content is determined separately using the infrared spectrometry method in accordance with DIN EN 14078 so that the biobased HVO content can be subsequently determined using subtraction/accounting.
