Overview

This document has been prepared by NA 062-06-61 AA "Prüfung von Schmierölen, sonstigen Ölen und Paraffinen" ("Testing of lubricating oils, other oils and Paraffin") of the Standardization Committee for Petroleum, Fuels, Lubricants and Related Products (FAM) at the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP).
This document specifies a method for determination of evaporation loss of lubricating oils by means of the Noack test. The document refers to a specified combination of operational parameters, it can be aligned, however, with other test conditions, if necessary.
The method described in this document uses Wood's metal which poses a high hazard potential due to the cadmium contained. Therefore, devices which operate without Wood's metal should be given preference.
