This standard defines and explains the essential vocabulary and parameters for the description of measuring instrumentation for mechanical vibrations and impacts. It also contains explanations regarding the interferences which may occur during the measurements and which shall be taken into account, if applicable. Thus, this standard forms the basis for a uniform and clear description of the measuring instrumentation in relation to their relevant properties. It is limited to the measuring instrumentation for kinematic vibration parameters, including impacts. However, the basic requirements and tests of the properties of vibration measuring instrumentation are specified in DIN 45662 "Vibration measuring instrumentation - Fundamental requirements and verification". DIN 45661 has been prepared as a revision of the 1998 edition in Working Committee NA 001-03-02 AA (NALS/VDI C 2) "Schwingungsmesstechnik" ("Vibration measuring techniques") of the Acoustics, Noise Control and Vibration Engineering Standards Committee (NALS) at DIN and VDI. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN 45661:1998-06: a) definition of the rms value has been extended; b) some new terms and definitions have been incorporated; c) term dynamic range has been deleted; d) standard has been editorially revised and cited standards have been updated.
