This standard applies to closed stationary lead-acid batteries with positive tubular plates in plastic containers which are used as power sources, for example for safety lighting, telecommunications, control and drive technology and battery-supported systems for direct and alternating current supply. For the installation and operation of stationary battery systems, the safety regulation DIN EN 50272-2 (VDE 0510-2) "Safety requirements for secondary batteries and battery installations - Part 2: Stationary batteries" shall also be observed. The responsible committee is DKE/K 371 "Akkumulatoren" ("Secondary cells and batteries") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN 40736-1:1992-06 .
