The revision of DIN 33942 became necessary because, on the one hand, the technical development of playground equipment has progressed and, on the other hand, the DIN EN 1176 series of standards has been revised as an essential basis for this standard. The revision of this standard was also based on the assumption that barrier-free playground equipment should be usable for all people. The standard has also been prepared with due regard for the statutory duty of supervision. There are special constructions that may only be operated under supervision. They are not covered by this standard. However, this standard can also be applied mutatis mutandis to such constructions. The requirements have been specified in such a way that use can be largely independent of outside assistance. This applies in particular to people with special requirements and needs, for example in movement and perception. Requirements and guidance for the planning, construction and operation of playgrounds and outdoor play areas are contained in DIN 18034. According to DIN 18034:2012-09, 4.2.2.7 "Barrier-free use", playgrounds shall be designed in such a way that they are also accessible and usable for people with special requirements and needs, for example in movement and perception. This document has been prepared by NA 112-07-01 AA "Spielplatzgeräte" ("Playground equipment") at DIN Standards Committee Sports Equipment (NASport).
This document replaces DIN 33942:2002-08 .
