Wear, failures and other damage influence the operational safety of railway vehicles. Depending on the wear characteristics, application parameters and the current state of the railway vehicles and the cost effectiveness, a maintenance system shall be specified by which it is ensured that the necessary technical target state is maintained. All standards under the general title "State of railway vehicles" represent a uniform and system-compatible normative document which specifies the limit state for the safe operation and processes to maintain the target state of standard gauge railway vehicles. All documents under this general title are listed in DIN 27200, Supplement 1. DIN 27205 "State of railway vehicles - Brake" consist of the following parts: - Part 1: Tread brake, mechanical part; - Part 2: Disc brake, mechanical part; - Part 3: Ventilated axle mounted brake discs; - Part 4: Non ventilated axle mounted brake discs; - Part 5: Wheel mounted brake discs; - Part 6: Magnetic track brake; - Part 7: Simple unfired pressure vessels (withdrawn); - Part 8: Tightness and efficiency; - Part 9: Function of driver's brake valve, control devices and indicators in driver's cabs; - Part 10: Function of emergency brake equipment and emergency brake override; - Part 11: Function and tightness of the brake for direct braking on powered traction unit and indirect braking on connected vehicles; - Part 12: Function and tightness of railway vehicle brakes. All standards under the general title "State of railway vehicles" contain technical specifications for safety-relevant systems and components of standard gauge railway vehicles that require monitoring (standard gauge vehicles according to DIN 25003). This standard specifies the limit state for the safe operation of standard gauge railway vehicles and their components. It shall be applied if the vehicles are operated on a public railway infrastructure. The minimum requirements specified in the standards for the processes for maintaining the target condition of the railway vehicles shall also be applied. In addition, this standard shall also be observed for new designs if design precautions are to be taken to ensure compliance with the operating limit criteria. The design for a maintenance-friendly inspection of the operating limits shall be taken into account. The applicability of this standard to railway vehicles of other track gauges and their components shall be checked on a case-by-case basis. This document has been prepared by Subcommittee NA 087-00-15-05 UA "Bremse" ("Brake") of Working Committee NA 087-00-15 AA "Zustand der Eisenbahnfahrzeuge" ("State of railway vehicles") at DIN Standards Committee Railway (FSF), in coordination with other working committees of the FSF and the "German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (DKE)". This standard specifies the minimum requirements for the nominal technical condition of the - emergency braking device; - device for overriding the emergency brake. In addition, this standard shall also be observed for new designs if design precautions are to be taken to ensure compliance with the operating limit criteria. The standard differs from DIN 27205-10:2005-05 as follows: a) adaptation of the foreword; b) Revision of the normative references; c) Clause 3 revised and DIN EN 17018 added as a new terminology standard; d) revision of Table 1 and adaptation of the requirements to DIN EN 16334; e) editorially revised.
