The standard defines the calculation principles for the construction of large opencast mining equipment. In addition, it can be taken as a basis for the construction of other excavators, spreaders and auxiliary equipment with an operating mass of more than 200 t and for comparable equipment and installations. Verification with the load assumptions and regulations of this standard shall be provided for all load-bearing components of the steel structure; DIN EN 1993-1 shall be decisive for the remaining steel components. The standard shall also be applied to modifications of equipment or parts of equipment if these modifications affect the stability or the load on the load-bearing structure of the equipment or one of its parts. The standard has been extensively revised and changed from DIN 18800 to DIN EN 1993-1 as the basic reference standard. The structure of the standard and the terminology were closely aligned with the relevant current European construction standards (Eurocodes). The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-10-01 AA "Bagger, Absetzer und Zusatzgeräte in Braunkohlentagebauen" ("Excavators, spreaders and auxiliary equipment in opencase lignite mines") of FABERG.
