Since the start of publishing the DIN 1988 standard series, a series of important changes occurred in the field of drinking water installations in buildings. These are taken into account as technical innovation in the installations and the necessary components. This also applies to fire fighting and fire protection installations. This standard specifies requirements for the planning, construction, operation, changing and maintenance of the drinking water installations from the connection point to connector of fire water to fire fighting and fire protection installations as well as underground and pillar fire hydrant systems on properties in connection with drinking water installations (taking into account the corresponding specifications of the series DIN EN 806 as well as DIN EN 1717). In the standard, definitions were expanded and updated, the so-called fire water connecting point as an interface between drinking water installations and fire fighting and fire protection installations has been added, information for the planning and design of fire fighting installations has been limited, the planning and design of underground and pillar fire hydrant systems outside of buildings have been newly specified as well as requirements from the Trinkwasserverordnung (German Drinking Water Regulations) 2001 in the field of drinking water hygiene have been implemented. With this in mind, specifications for connecting pipes, metering, single feed lines, as well as allowable connection types for fire water connecting points are met. In the following, detailed information is given on piping installations (valves, piping materials, pressure boosting stations, pressure reduction, mechanical filters and strainers, determination of pipe diameter) and connector types (free discharge, filling and draining devices, underground pipe installations for underground and pillar fire hydrant systems in connection with drinking water installations, drinking water installations with type S wall-mounted hydrants, direct connection stations for sprinkler installations and fire fighting installations with open nozzles). This standard concludes with statements about third party supply, treatment of fire fighting and fire protection installations for connection to existing drinking water installations as well as commissioning. In a separate annex to the standard, the different connections of fire fighting and fire protection installations to the drinking water system are schematically represented. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 119-04-07 AA "Häusliche Wasserversorgung" ("Domestic water supply").
