This standard provides a simple "identification key" for derivation of the soil erosion risk caused by wind. It shall be used as the information basis for the detection and differentiation of planning areas. This standard is based on a simple method for determination of areas endangered by wind erosion which has been developed by the Landesamt für Bergbau, Energie und Geologie (LBEG) (State Office for Mining, Energy and Geology) and the Zentrum für Agrarlandschafts- und Landnutzungsforschung e. V. (ZALF) (Agricultural Landscape and Land Use Research), in collaboration with the agricultural departments of Lower Saxony on the basis of nationwide available data and verified during perennial trials. DIN 19706 applies to the area related derivation of the local erosion risk from soil maps taking into account the most cultivated types of crop and the protective effects of wind obstacles.
This document replaces DIN 19706:2004-05 .
