This standard specifies requirements for the mechanical stability and test methods of stationary and mobile handholds for safe entrance into accessible manholes. For the purposes of this standard, stationary handholds are guide devices that are firmly connected to the ground and contain extendable or rotatable holding elements. Mobile handholds are clampable guide devices that include extendable or rotatable holding elements. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 119-05-01-04 UA "Steigeisen (CEN/TC 165/WG 4)" ("Steps (CEN/TC 165/WG 4)") at DIN.
