This standard is required for replacement deliveries caused by market demands. New technical developments for crank-drive door closers are no longer expected. Crank-drive door closers as specified in DIN 18263-1 do not allow fundamental requirements of DIN EN 1154 to be met. For the use of surface (top) mounted door closers with crank drive and spiral spring on fire barrier doors and other doors subject to requirements of the building control authorities, proof of conformity with the requirements of this standard may be required, see List of Specified Criteria for Buildings A, Part 11). In the context of such standards, specification of the conformity assessment procedure is incumbent to the building control authorities. This standard applies to door closers with hydraulic dampening of construction type K (surface mounted door closers with crank drive and spiral spring). Door closers with hydraulic dampening of construction type K provide the respective doors with the "self-closing" property required by the building codes of the Federal States or by the relevant door standards, respectively. They are used for one-leaf or two-leaf swing doorsets of the construction types - fire-protection doors; - smoke control doors. For two-leaf doors, proof in accordance with DIN EN 1158 is required to be provided in conjunction with a door coordinator device. DIN 18263-1 applies to door closers with hydraulic dampening of construction type K (surface (top) mounted door closers with crank drive and spiral spring). The following changes were made with respect to DIN 18263-1:1997-05: - the product specific factory production control and regulatory compliance have been adapted; - editorial revision as well as deletion of references to the List of Specified Criteria for Buildings, to Draft Building Codes, State building codes and requirements for conformity assessment which are no longer valid or permissible, respectively; - the closing times at extreme temperatures as well as the door opening angle ranges for determination of the closing forces have been adapted to the requirements of DIN EN 1154. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 005-09-46 AA "Schließmittel (SpA zu CEN/TC 33/WG 4/TG 6)" ("Door closers (Mirror committee to CEN/TC 33/WG 4/TG 6)") at DIN.
