This standard serves as the basis for the security-related recommendations of the police and for surrendering the manufacturer's list of the commission for crime prevention (KPK) on tested and certified burglar-resistant products. This document specifies terms and definitions, dimensions, requirements, tests and the designation for security plates. A security plate according to this standard is intended to protect the key lock (in particular the bolt stump of the lock) and the profile cylinder against unauthorized mechanical manipulation with the aim of entering the room secured by the door. A security escutcheon can partially take over the function of a security plate. Its use requires additional measures, for example a drill protection according to the requirements of this standard in order to achieve the same resistance like a security plate of the same class. Security plates according to this standard are classified into four resistance classes from which the user can choose depending on the need for protection. Normal doors, for example with door leaves according to DIN 68706-1 will not become burglar-resistant doors exclusively by applying security plates. Security plates may be fitted to fire-resistant doors; they shall then fulfil other requirements not given in this standard, however, which are specified in the corresponding standards or letters of admission (for fire-resistant doors with general building approval). See DIN 18273 for lever handle units for fire doors and smoke control doors. For the use of security plates according to this standard in connection with devices for emergency exit doors according to DIN EN 179 with a single-piece lock follower or similar locks constructional measures are recommended which prevent that the square spindle can easily be manipulated for example after the door knob has been knocked off. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 005-09-47 AA "Türbeschläge (SpA zu CEN/TC 33/WG 4/TG 7)" ("Door furniture (national mirror committee for CEN/TC 33/WG 4/TG 7)") at DIN.
