Overview

The document applies to all soils which have a solid bonding or from which geometrically regular blocks may be taken without influencing the density. The test is used in soil and foundation engineering as well as in hydraulic engineering. The determination of density serves to assess the building properties of a soil and is essential for calculating the porosity as well as the saturation value. The degree of compaction is calculated from the ratio of density and the associated Proctor density according to DIN 18127. It is used for quality control during soil compaction operations. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 005-05-03 AA "Baugrund, Laborversuche" ("Soil; laboratory tests") at the German Civil Engineering Standards Committee (NABau) of DIN, the German Institute for Standardization e. V.
