The standard specifies requirements for the exterior coloration, interior coloration and other coloration of fire-fighting and rescue service vehicles, whereby the exterior coloration is carried out by means of painting or foil bonding. Furthermore, special markings are specified. The standard applies to fire-fighting and rescue service vehicles according to DIN EN 1846-1 and, in deviation from DIN EN 1846-2:2013-05, 1.2, also to all personnel carrying vehicles as well as to and rescue service vehicles with a total mass of up to 2 t. The document is a supplement to European Standard EN 1846-2 "Fire-fighting and rescue service vehicles - Part 2: Common requirements - Safety and performance" regarding the coloration of fire-fighting and rescue service vehicles. Color specifications for fire-fighting and rescue service vehicles vary throughout Europe. Therefore, these requirements cannot be contained in a European Standard, but shall be specified accordingly at national level. Furthermore, in the scope of application of EN 1846-2 it is, among other things, pointed out that EN 1846-2 should be applied in conjunction with all applicable national regulations for public road traffic vehicles as well as with the EU directives and associated EFTA directives for vehicles and equipment. This standard provides - with regard to the coloration - corresponding information on the German Road Traffic Registration Ordinance (StVZO). The revision of DIN 14502-3:2009-02 had become necessary in order to adapt the technical content to the current status. The most important updates are the following: - color extension with the color traffic red RAL 3020 according to color register RAL 841 GL; - color specifications for tarpaulins included; - the color silver of the series paint finish approved for other surfaces of the vehicle body; - information for better day and night visibility specified; - coloration of actuating devices and external connections adapted to DIN CEN/TS 15989 (DIN SPEC 14003). Very important information for better day and night visibility of fire-fighting and rescue service vehicles was included already with the 2009 edition of the standard, which has had a lasting effect on the appearance of German fire-fighting and rescue service vehicles and often changed it accordingly. This was done for the protection of fire-fighters for reasons of occupational safety in analogy to the ambulances according to DIN EN 1789. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 031-04-06 AA "Allgemeine Anforderungen an Feuerwehrfahrzeuge - Löschfahrzeuge - SpA zu CEN/TC 192/WG 3" ("General requirements for fire fighting and rescue service vehicles - Fire fighting vehicles - Mirror committee for CEN/TC 192/WG 3") of DIN Standards Committee Firefighting and Fire Protection (FNFW).
