The inductor proportioner according to DIN 14384 sucks up the foam compound with the pick-up hose type D according to DIN 14819; the foam is delivered as a mixture of foam-compound and water via the connected fire hose and the foam branch pipe according to DIN 14366. In the inductor proportioner according to DIN 14384, which operates according to the Venturi principle, a vacuum is created in the suction chamber by way of injector action. A flow control device or, optionally, a fixed aperture regulates the addition of foam compound to the water. Every induction proportioner is designed for a certain mixture volume flow and pressure loss. Changing the counter-pressure after the inductor proportioner changes the water partial volume flow and foam compound partial volume flow, this means the proportionate addition. Foam generators, such as foam branch pipes according to DIN 14366 or portable monitors according to DIN EN 15767-3 or other suitable apertures are necessary for the generation of foam for fire-fighting purposes. The standard has been adapted to the state of the art, thus the following significant modifications have been made with regard to DIN 14384:1984-10: a) scope has been revised; the revised description of the mode of operation has been incorporated into the introduction; b) terms and definitions have been revised; c) induction proportioner types Z 0,5 and Z 0,5 R as well as Z 1 and Z 1 R have been incorporated; d) material specifications including surface treatment have been revised; e) information has been included that the protective strainer can be omitted if a sieve with a mesh opening of 6 mm is present; f) statistic test pressure of 25 bar has been incorporated; g) due to the closing of the official testing laboratory, type and control tests have been omitted; conformity tests (verification) have been included instead; h) designation has been revised and maintenance requirements have been incorporated as information to be included in the instructions for use; i) content has been editorially revised and modified with regard to standards, DIN 16013 and DIN 16027 have been replaced by DIN EN 837-1 and DIN EN 837-3, respectively, DIN 50049 has been deleted, the DIN 14272 standard series has been replaced by the DIN EN 1568 standard series and normative references to the solid coupling standards DIN 14306, DIN 143047-1 and DIN 14308-1, respectively, and to the pick-up hose type D according to DIN 14819 have been incorporated, amongst others. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 031-04-04 AA "Schläuche und Armaturen" ("Hoses and hose fittings") of the FNFW.
