Operating conditions are simulated in equipment for practicing respiratory protective devices, to train firefighters in the use of respiratory protective devices and full-body protective suits and to carry out exercises under respiratory protection with or without a full-body protective suit. It is a structure where typical fire brigade activities can be practised under respiratory protection and in chemical protective suits as well as the physical fitness of fire brigade members can be checked. The elements of design according to this standard shall enable architects, planners and administrative bodies to plan breathing exercise equipment usefully. Equipment for practicing respiratory protective devices may be planned coherently comprising several floors and/or components. If possible, it should be set up in connection with structures for the fire and disaster prevention to be able to use the available infrastructure. An informative Annex comprises a schematic representation of the rooms of equipment for practicing respiratory protective devices in a functional context (organisation and training sequence). The July 2000 edition of DIN 14093-1 has been revised in order to adapt the requirements for equipment for practicing respiratory protective devices to FwDV 7, Fire service regulation 7 - Respiratory protection. Compared to DIN 14093-1:2002-07, the following significant modifications have been made: - the division of the standard into several parts has been suspended since no further parts are currently available and the standard has been restructured; - in the room programme a fixed parameter is no longer provided for the training room, but a space of 1,5 square meters per trainee has been specified; - in the listed room programme the wardrobe, changing room, day room and sanitary rooms have been included and/or the existing rooms renamed and the room to get used to the heat and social areas have been deleted from the list; - requirements for the structural design as well as technical requirements for the rooms have been partly summarized in tables for a better overview and completely revised; - instead of a sample floor plan in Annex A, a schematic representation of the rooms of the equipment for practicing respiratory protective devices has been provided in a functional context (organisation and training sequence). Following preparatory work of Working Group NA 031-04-02-04 AK "Atemschutz-Übungsanlagen - DIN 14093-1" ("Breathing exercise equipment - DIN 14093-1"), this document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 031-04-02 AA "Bauliche Anlagen und Einrichtungen" ("Constructional facilities equipment") at the Firefighting and Fire Protection Committee (FNFW).
This document replaces DIN 14093-1:2002-07 .
