This standard applies for sealing material in milk processing machinery and plants taking into account the influences of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization and of the products processed in the machinery and plants. Sealing design, constructive requirements, mounting requirements and safety requirements are not covered by this standard. Elastomeric sealings are wear parts. This standard has been prepared in order to take into account influences which limit function and service life, such as cleaning, disinfection and sterilization on sealing material in milk processing machinery and plants. The document can be used by analogy for other plants in the food industry if they are cleaned, disinfected or sterilized in a similar way. The standard provides the user of elastomeric seals with information which material is suitable for milk processing machinery and plants. Simultaneously, the operator should be provided with information under which conditions sealing materials continue functioning as long as possible and yet the desired cleaning effect is achieved. This standard has been prepared by Working Group (WG) "Milchwirtschaftliche Maschinen und Anlagen" ("Milk processing machinery and plant") of Working Committee (WC) "Molkereimaschinen" ("Dairy machinery") at the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM). This standard is the second part of the standard series "Milk processing machinery and plant; cleaning and disinfection". The following parts are part of this standard series: - Part 1: - Consideration of the action on stainless steel - Part 2: Consideration of the effects on sealing material Modifications: a) scope of the standard has been modified; b) editorial adjustment to DIN 820-2; c) comprehensive revision of all clauses of the standard.
