This standard specifies a reference method for the determination of the number of Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium. The method is applicable to meat and meat products and products with added meat and meat products. The samples are cultivated on a selective culture medium. The number of enterococci per g or ml of the sample is calculated from the typical colonies formed. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 057-01-06 AA "Mikrobiologie der Lebensmittelkette" ("Microbiology of the food chain") at DIN.
