1.1 This guide defines the organizational structure, policies and procedures required to operate a certification program in the field of search and rescue. 1.2 Certifications are used by authorities having jurisdiction as a component to their credentialing process, typically to demonstrate one component of an individual's ability to field. 1.3 Certifications are typically provided by third party, disinterested, providers and are commonly used to validate an individual's, team's, or authority having jurisdiction's training program in a particular area. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.
