Packaging 3
Inspections — Transport

(Please note: This publication is only available in German.)

Good packaging materials and packaging are one thing — professional transport and thorough inspection of packages and unit loads are another. In order to prevent damage to transported goods and to ensure the safety of personnel, other persons and the environment, transport operations must be carried out in accordance with clear, appropriate specifications.

Transport loads play an important role here. “Packaging 3 — Inspections — Transport” therefore offers a large number of standards dealing with the measurement and evaluation of transport loads. These standards contain information on aspects such as data collection/data recording and data preparation.

In addition to the documents on transport loads, “Packaging 3 — Inspections — Transport" contains standards on packages and unit loads ready for dispatch, with topics such as sampling, centre of gravity determination, inspection schemes and various test methods.

Three documents on transport services a guide to EN ISO 9001, standards on performance characteristics and freight transport round off the collection of standards, which is the third volume in DIN Media’s “Packaging” handbook series.

All of the relevant standards for transport safety and load testing

The 2nd edition of “Packaging 3 — Inspections — Transport” contains lots of new information. This includes, for example, DIN 55415 for test methods for determining transport stability, which covers an important aspect of load securing and was published in 2022. Also included for the first time is DIN EN 16210 for measuring climatic loads — an important sub-topic of safe transport.

Five documents have also been revised: Parts 1 and 2 of DIN 30786 for the collection of data on mechanical dynamic loads have undergone editorial changes and extra content has been added. DIN 55545 has been extensively revised and adapted to the corresponding ASTM. The structure of DIN EN ISO 4180 on test schedules has also been completely revised, and DIN EN ISO 13355 on vibration testing has been given a new annex.

This makes “Packaging 3 — Inspections — Transport” a highly topical set of standards at the cutting edge of technology and standardization. It contains:

  • Clarity for requirements
The documents contain clear instructions that ensure the safety of the transported goods and those involved, and also protect you legally.

  • Informative documents
You will learn what constitutes professional load securing in individual cases and be able to implement the specifications for yourself.

  • Wide range of topics
The documents summarized in this collection of standards cover a wide range and answer almost all questions that arise in connection with load testing and securing.

This book is part of a three-volume series in which DIN Media publishes the most important standards in the field: DIN Handbook 490/1 deals with packaging materials, DIN Handbook 490/2 is dedicated to means of packaging.
