About this product

Earthworks and foundation engineering
Standards

(Please note: This publication is only available in German.)

Practically every building begins with earthworks and foundation engineering, the proper planning and execution of which is crucial to the success of the construction project. A large number of standards regulate various aspects of foundation engineering/geotechnics and ensure safety and uniform standards. This book brings together eighteen standards on analysis principles and methods in earthworks and foundation engineering. The documents included provide valuable help for planning and implementation and contain information and specifications for many topics, including:

  • Soil parameters and soil classification
  • Excavations, foundations and underpinnings
  • Excavations and trenches
  • Stability analysis of diaphragm walls
  • Calculation of design bearing capacity of soil
  • Calculation of bearing pressure distribution
  • Calculation of earth pressure

This collection includes Eurocode 7, DIN EN 1997-1, which specifies general rules for geotechnical design and analysis. The corresponding National Annex to Eurocode 7 and the supplementary regulations laid down in DIN 1054 can also be found in this handy book.

Current standards on earthworks and foundation engineering

On well over 700 pages, building professionals will find all the information they need in this collection of standards: Practical information ranging from parameters and classifications, calculation formulae and examples to verifications and further explanations. This makes DIN-Taschenbuch 36 a complete guide to earthworks and foundation engineering. The following changes have been made to the previous 2018 edition:

  • DIN 4084 and DIN 4084 Supplement 1 have been revised
DIN 4084 "Soil – Calculation of embankment failure and overall stability of retaining structures" is one of the most important standards in the industry and is included here in the current 2021 edition, in which a new annex on case distinctions for tension members has been added, among other things. The corresponding Supplement 1, published in 2023, includes new calculation examples.
  • DIN 18196 have been revised
DIN 18196 "Earthworks and foundation engineering - Soil classification for civil engineering purposes" is also one of the most important standards in the field and was published in a revised version in 2023, which includes a new annex with examples, expanded and updated tables, and many other amendments.

In addition, the book provides an up-to-date list of standards and specifications in the field that are not included here.

The 14th edition of the popular DIN-Taschenbuch 36 "Earthworks and Foundation Engineering - Standards" is an indispensable tool for practitioners, students and teachers.
