About this product

DIN-Taschenbuch 151
Workpiece clamps and equipment; standards

(Please note: This publication is only available in German.)

Nothing slips or wobbles: Workpiece clamps hold objects firmly in their intended positions, allowing precise machining. The German Institute for Standardization offers a large number of standards for specific workpiece clamps and fixtures, the most important of which are collected in this DIN handbook. Since the previous edition in 2011, some of the documents included have been revised and new standards have been added.  Among the more than fifty documents, DIN Handbook 151 contains five revised standards as well as the new DIN EN ISO 18388 on the types and dimensioning of relief grooves.

The 6th edition of DIN Handbook 151 is intended to provide practitioners in various fields with a valuable working aid in which specifications and requirements can be looked up. The scope of the documents ranges from quality regulations and safety-related specifications to test methods, product documentation and much more.

The standards are divided into the following subject areas:

  • Basic standards for workpiece clamps and fixtures
  • Workpiece clamps for general purposes
  • Workpiece clamps for lathes
  • Workpiece clamps and equipment for grinding machines
  • Equipment
  • Screws and nuts

There are also standards from related areas such as mechanical fasteners, machine tools, material testing and more.

Comprehensive, up-to-date expertise on workpiece clamping

Workpiece clamps are used in many different areas of application and the existing standardization is just as extensive. This compendium of standards aims to bring together the most important documents on the subject in one book; it closely complements the DIN Handbook 14 on tool clamps.

The changes that have taken place since the previous edition are as follows:

  • 1 document newly included
The newly published DIN EN ISO 18388 — partly resulting from the joint restructuring with DIN 509 — provides information on relief grooves in mechanical engineering.

  • 5 revised documents
DIN 509, which was restructured together with DIN EN ISO 18388, can also be found in its new form in this collection of standards and has also been given a new annex. In DIN 6303 on knurled nuts, the technical delivery conditions have been revised; in DIN 6386-1 there are new material designations; in DIN EN ISO 286-2 on ISO code system for tolerance, important corrections have been made and a Corrigendum included; and DIN EN ISO 18265 on hardness values of metallic materials has been expanded to include an annex on test parameters as well as tool steels and specified hardness test methods.

The extensive changes to the standards mentioned were the decisive factor for the new edition of DIN Handbook 151; another important reason was the fifteen standards in the specialist area of clamping devices that have now been withdrawn without replacement. A corresponding list can be found in the current 6th edition.
